TECHNICAL PROGRAM

More than 500 papers will be presented by authors from 30 countries addressing risk assessment methods and applications involving many diverse technologies such as aviation, space, process plants, nuclear, transportation, medical, and computer and communication. These papers are peer reviewed and meet a high standard of quality and originality. The proceedings, which will be available at the time of conference in both hard cover and CD ROM formats, will contain the full text of the papers presented. Topics address new developments in methods, innovative applications, and use of risk analysis in decision making and regulation. In addition to more than 130 technical sessions devoted to paper presentations, many plenary sessions provide a unique opportunity to hear expert assessments of the state of the art in areas of common interest to the conference attendees. OTHER EVENTS

Luncheon and IAPSAM General Assembly (Tuesday, September 15)
The official conference luncheon will be held in the Grand Hyatt Hotel. This will also serve as the General Assembly of the International Association for Probabilistic Safety Assessment and Management (IAPSAM). This will afford the conferees and IAPSAM Board of Directors the opportunity to exchange ideas on future directions for the PSAM conferences.

Gala Dinner (Wednesday, September 16)
A special evening is planned for Wednesday, September 16 onboard the Intrepid Sea*Air*Space Museum which is docked on the Hudson River at 12th Avenue and 46th Street. The USS Intrepid served as an aircraft carrier for 37 years through several campaigns and now is a National Historic Landmark with displays and artifacts from 20th century history and technology. Cocktails and dinner will be enjoyed onboard this waterfront museum with the famous New York City skyline as backdrop. Bus transportation between the Intrepid and the Grand Hyatt Hotel will be provided.

Workshops and Tutorials
Several tutorials on fundamental and current issues in risk assessment and management will be conducted during or before the Conference. The tutorials will be taught by practicing experts in the field, and will be managed under the direct responsibility of each individual organizer. Course lectures and titles will be announced in the preliminary program to be issued in April and posted on the PSAM 4 web site. Although not directly organized by PSAM 4, several workshops and seminars are planned to take place immediately before or after the Conference. These will be held at venues convenient to those who wish to combine attendance at PSAM 4 with participation in a workshop or seminar. Sports
Baseball season will be well along and this could be an opportunity to catch pennant fever with one of the New York teams. Both stadiums are easily accessible by public transportation. Sightseeing
September is one of the best months to visit New York City. Organized tours of the many diverse neighborhoods and sites are easily available. Boat cruises around Manhattan are especially delightful during late summer. New York's many museums are only minutes away. One of the best ways to experience New York is on foot. Fifth Avenue shopping, Times Square, Central Park, Rockefeller Center, and many other attractions are a short walk from the hotel. Dining
