Area Information

Among Seattle’s most popular urban attractions are the Seattle Center and the Space Needle, Pike Place Market, the Hiram Chittenden Locks, Woodland Park Zoo, Tillicum Indian Village, Seattle Aquarium, waterfront, Lakeside and Sound beaches, Pioneer Square, International District, and local wineries and breweries.

Seattle is situated on the shores of Lake Washington, Lake Union and Puget Sound, flanked by two major mountain ranges (Olympics and Cascades), with Mount Rainier in full view and remote wilderness less than an hour away. Nearby are the San Juan Islands, Pacific Ocean beaches and major rivers. See www.visitseattle.org for more information.

For many people, Seattle is synonymous with aviation. Seattle’s Museum of Flight, located at Boeing Field in South Seattle, presents the largest and most comprehensive collection of aerospace artifacts in the western United States. The museum’s centerpiece, its Great Gallery, is a six-story glass and steel structure in which more than 20 full-sized aircraft are suspended. Other significant spaces and exhibits include the Personal Courage Wing, featuring 28 World War I and World War II fighter planes and interactive exhibits, and the Red Barn, the historic birthplace of the Boeing Airplane Company.
